• November 14, 1976 Gene and Sara Harvey celebrate Sara's birthday by quitting their jobs and starting Roebuck Advertising in a spare room of their home in Roebuck, South Carolina. Years later Sara would joke, "We broke all the rules. If we had known what we were doing, we would never have jumped off the deep end like that."

The company was undercapitalized, with just $6,000.00 in start-up money. The couple had five children, all of whom were still living at home, including oldest son Steve, who was a sophomore in college, and today runs the business. Giving up their jobs meant giving up steady salaries and benefits, including health insurance. It was the wrong time of year. Mid-November meant most of the busy corporate Christmas gift season was over. Gene, who handled sales, went door to door the first month and a half selling logo matches and New Year's Eve party packs to bars and restaurants from Gatlinburg, TN to Myrtle Beach, SC. Sara, who handled everything else, typed orders, kept house, sent out invoices and went to PTA meetings. Somehow it worked.
Thirty-five years later Roebuck Advertising occupies a 5,000 square foot office and has done business with clients in 33 states and 3 foreign countries. The company has been recognized with two national awards for outstanding promotions and incentives programs and a host of regional and local honors.
As we celebrate, everyone at Roebuck Advertising would like to say....
Thanks to Our Clients for 35 Great Years!
