GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING ARTWORK
ELECTRONIC ART |
-
All text must be converted to curves or outlines before sending
-
A printout of the design must be faxed or mailed if multi-color. If e-mailing, it's a good idea to send a JPEG file for comparison
-
Acceptable media: 3.5" disk, ZIP disk - 100 or 250 MB, CD-ROM, DVD. Please check with your account rep before providing a DVD.
-
Other formats may be acceptable if the art doesn't need any alterations and if the manufacturer is capable of reading it. Ask your account manager for requirements.
|
| For the best results, create your art as vector art in Adobe Illustrator® or CorelDRAW® and export from your program as an EPS file. Do not compress files saved from AI. WE PREFER PC FORMAT, however, some MAC files are acceptable. MAC files must be compressed with either WinZip® or Stuffit® before e-mailing. |

We are able to import many other formats, like JPEG, PSD and BMP, but we prefer the above formats. If you have a file in another format, please call for assistance. Unless your art is being used for embroidery setup, most other formats will need to be converted or redrawn to be acceptable.
PRINTED ART |
SOME ADDITIONAL POINTS
|
-
Clean black & white line art with no halftones or screens
-
Multi-color imprints require color separations for each color with registration marks and a color composite printout
-
Laser printouts should have a resolution of 600 dpi or higher and be printed at two or three times the imprint size on good quality paper
-
Inkjet prints are not recommended, but may be usable if 600 dpi or higher, enlarged and printed on glossy or other good quality paper
-
Letterhead, business cards and other printed pieces may be usable, but usually must be redrawn (art charge will apply)
-
NOT USABLE: faxes, copies, products with curved surfaces (An art charge will be incurred to redraw/clean up these items)
|
- HALFTONES may or may not be acceptable in a design. This depends on the product and the manufacturer's printing limitations. Please call your account manager to find out if halftones are available on the item you are ordering.
- VECTOR ART: Vectors are a series of points joined by lines. This allows enlargement of art without affecting the original clarity of the edges. This also allows the graphic to be broken apart and edited. Corel DRAW® and Adobe Illustrator® are programs which are vector based, which is why we prefer them.
- BITMAPS: Bitmaps are composed of individual dots called pixels. Increasing the size of a bitmap has the effect of increasing individual pixels which makes the edges of the graphic appear jagged when enlarged. Also, because a bitmap is created as a collection of pixels, its parts cannot be moved individually. This is why BMP, JPEG, GIF, some EPS and TIF files and other bitmap formats are often not acceptable for our use.
- EMBROIDERY: An exception to many of these rules is embroidery setup. Bitmaps and full-color printouts may be used to set up embroidery, but remember that the better the quality of the art, the cleaner your finished design will appear.
